Ayurvedic tips for healthy living and beautiful skin / by Casey Warner

Struggling with my own health and skin issues has led me do a deepening passion for Ayurvedic medicine. It’s been practiced for 5000 years ,so I figure there must be something to this. Ive read numerous books/articles and there are a few simple and enriching tips for everyday life. It has changed my energy levels, my attitude and my health…. maybe it could help you too.

1. Wake up at or before sunrise to allow your body to be in rhythm with nature. Open an window or take a short walk outside.

2. Skip the coffee! A warm cup of green tea or even better a home brewed pot of ginger tea with honey, cinnamon and nutmeg will get you digestive fire started for the day and meals to come.

3. Start the day with a light meal of fruit, whole grains and greek yogurt

4. Don’t take a nap. If you get a mid day fatigue take a walk, short yoga session or 10 minute meditation will get you back on track

5. Have your heaviest meal for lunch, when your digestive fire is in full swing and you know you’ll burn it off by the end of day

6. Eat a healthy dinner of whole grains, lean meats/proteins and lots of veggies, remember to eat slowly and sit restfully for a few minutes after you eat. This was not easy for me. I usually eat standing while cleaning the house or chasing a baby so it’s been nice to allow my body to digest and enjoy.

7. Before bed enjoy a warm glass of almond milk with cinnamon and nutmeg

8. Treat yourself to a massage. Warm some sesame oil with relaxing essential oils and massage yourself a few times a week. It eases the body and soothes the skin. A wonderful night time ritual of selfcare..

9. No more screen time around 9pm and be in bed by 10pm. They say this is the last gateway to a good nights rest before we go into a restless phase of the night.

Its fun to learn more about this ancient medicine. Take your Dosha quiz to learn more. Keep in mind, you may have one type of dosha for your body and one for your your mind. It took me a while to realize this. Enjoy the journey and take time to love yourself.
